L'Effet Papillon - Diverses définitions

Défini par le météorologue Edward Lorenz, l'effet papillon est la méthaphore de la théorie du chaos. C'est une relation de cause à effet, une théorie profondément déterministe.

Lorenz met donc en place cette relation de cause à effet entre un papillon au Brésil et cette tornade au Texas. Ce papillon peut donc, par un battement d'aile provoquer une tornade au Texas. Mais il peut également empêcher cette tornade d'éclater. Comme par d'autres battements d'ailes, d'autres papillons peuvent aussi s'immiscer dans l'action de la tornade du Texas.

Le but de cette démonstration est clair : une action détermine une autre action. Si cette action n'avait pas eu lieu, le futur ne serait pas le même. Imaginez si la bombe H n'avait pas explosé à Hiroshima ou si Hitler avait gagné la Seconde guerre mondiale. C'est ça, l'effet papillon.
